Kia Ora whanau,
my name is Becci Huls, I am 32 years old and I am one of the teachers/ team leader in the Senior Learning Hub and the homeroom teacher for Year 6. Being part of a learning hub, I am lucky enough to teach students from Years 6, 7 and 8.
I have been teaching for almost a decade now, and have been part of the St Joseph's family for over three years. The Year 6 class is the first class I had when I arrived at St Joseph's (when they were Year 3), so that is an added bonus- we have existing positive relationships.
I grew up in Oamaru along with my older sister Gemma, who is married and has two sons- Boston, 4 and Lincoln, 1.
I have taught throughout the South Island, including Nelson, Blenheim, Kurow, Geraldine, and Gore, covering all age groups from Years 0-8.
You will probably notice that I love animals and you will find a few small critters in my homeroom (rats!) I love having pets in the classroom as they enrich the environment, bond us together even closer as a family and help students learn responsibility and animal care.
When I am not at school I enjoy photography and love to paint too! I also enjoy getting out in our beautiful outdoors and exploring (with my camera of course!) I also enjoy reading and cooking.
I am passionate about teaching and learning, and highly value children's wellbeing, and developing positive relationships. This includes relationships with families and the community too. I teach Children's Liturgy on a Sunday once a month.
Some of my particular strengths in teaching include literacy (being such a passionate reader and writer myself helps), numeracy (such an important aspect of today's classroom), inquiry learning (especially integrating it throughout the curriculum) and the arts (especially visual art).
Check out our Year 6 and individual blogs
and take a look at all the amazing things we do. Better still, come and pay us a visit, we would love to see you!
